According to approved work plan, project CHARTS participated at the annual event for regional and local authorities - 12th Open Days European Week of Regions and Cities Open on 6 – 9th October in Brussels.

 

During four days representatives from CHARTS Management and Coordination Unit (MCU) together with project partners European Cultural Tourism Network (Belgium) and University of Thessaly (Greece) participated at several events organised by the EU Committee of the Regions and the European Commission, related to tourism.

 

The OPEN DAYS - European Week of Regions and Cities is the key annual event for regional and local authorities that brings together regions and cities from all over Europe and beyond on a regular basis, providing thousands of local, regional, national and European decision-makers and experts with a real marketplace for exchanging and discussing projects and issues related to regional and local development. It offers participants a great opportunity in a unique set-up to showcase their capacity for creating growth and jobs and implementing European Union cohesion policy, alongside other policies with a territorial impact, and to demonstrate the importance of the local level for good European governance.

OPEN DAYS 2014 consisted from around 108 workshops with debates and networking activities and involved side events by stakeholders.

 

The main purpose of being at Open Days 2014 was to obtain the latest information on EU developments for regional policies, to exchange experience on sustainable tourism development with other authorities, networking with other initiatives and promoting project results to date according to the project plan of activities.

 

Representative of project Lead Partner South Pelion Municipality, together with Project Coordinator and partners ECTN, University of Thessaly and Pafos Regional Bard of Tourism participated in the Award ceremony of European Projects Association and seminars particularly related to culture and tourism and access to financial instruments in order to capitalize CHARTS results and outputs in the future.

 

Between seminars, Project Coordinator together with project Communication Manager and representatives of ECTN and University of Thessaly gave a recorded studio interview on Open Days 2014 impressions and Charts Charter launch event which was organized by partner ECTN on 9 October 2014, as a side event of Open Days 2014.

CHARTS Project at the OPEN DAYS 2013

According to approved work plan, project CHARTS participated at the annual event for regional and local authorities - 11th Open Days European Week of Regions and Cities. During four days representatives from CHARTS Management and Coordination Unit (MCU) together with an expert from Thessalia University (Greece) participated at number of events organised by the EU Committee of the Regions and the European Commission, Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO).

 

The main purpose of being at Open Days 2013 was to obtain the latest information on EU developments for regional policies, to exchange experience on sustainable tourism development with other authorities, networking with other initiatives and promoting project results to date according to the project plan of activities.

 

MCU participated at the opening of INTERREG IVC and related programme exhibition ‘100 EUrban solutions’. This related to the results of the Programme Capitalisation in 12 specific topics, including Creative Industries that is related to CHARTS project.

Additionally, MCU participated in seminars particularly related to culture and tourism – a joint workshop of INTERACT, INTERREG IVC, ESPON and URBACT on how cities and regions can create more jobs and support them, seminar on boosting innovation in EU regions, workshop and networking session on innovations in EU regions organised by INTERREG IVC.

Of particular relevance to CHARTS was the Workshop on ‘Business? Culture? Tourism? Take your pick! Brainstorm ideas to boost growth and jobs‘ held at Scotland House on October 9th with contributors from the EC Culture DG, European cities, regions and NECSTouR. The Project Coordinator made an intervention regarding the role of the European Heritage Label for promotion of cultural tourism.

 

Between seminars, Project Coordinator and an expert from Thessalia University gave a recorded studio interview  on Open Days 2013 impressions and project plans in the future.

 

CHARTS project plans to organise a Workshop or side event at next year’s Open Days 2014 in relation to the anticipated Charter on Engaging Culture & Heritage for Sustainable Tourism Development.
